Your Groceries 100yrs ago

Back in my day "I walked uphill, barefoot in snow for miles" Though that may be a bit exaggerated but not too far off nor for how they prepped meals either, in the 1800's families scheduled their day around "the meal" vs today meals "on the go" or when it is convenient to squeeze in. What is not exaggerated is todays food in grocery stores would be unrecognizable and can hardly be called "food". It is nothing short of Fake food. The industrial revolution and the chemical/injecting/crammed in quarters under synthetic lighting factory farming practices were unimaginable. No roaming the pastures soaking in the sun, eating chlorophlyll all day long, breathing fresh air and drinking clean water for factory farming today. 1800 century dinners included going into your own garden or pasture, milling your own grain, soaking seeds, standing in front of a fire for baked bread with soup and if that wasn't an option calling in the local milk man from not so far away and a butcher from down the road was available. Growth hormones, antibiotics and genetically modified feed were never fed to animals. People had seasonal diets eating what the body needed for that particular season.

FUN FACT: In the 1800's Dinner wasnt what it is today, it was the largest meal eaten in the afternoon. Supper was a smaller meal eaten in the late evening. What did they know that we do not know today?
